Working with lighting designer Krisjanis Berzins, I designed a system for translating drumming into lighting and visuals changes so the rhythms of the piece were literally visualised in lights and abstract projections.
Using piezoelectric microphones, an alesis drum module with 18 input channels sent MIDI to a computer on stage. This computer used ethernet to send the triggers to the lighting booth (MIDI has a range of only 30'). The lighting booth computer coordinated the lights through a LanBox-LCX DMX controller.
