The three dimensional screen, designed with CAD software, creates a complex
curved canvas for the linear graphics motions to be projected upon. Depending
on where the audience are situated these curved motions appear differently
and the video design
plays upon the layout of the three dimensional shape in a variety of ways.
Another frequent graphic device uses the central dividing cross of the screen,
which creates a ‘step’ that moving pixels cross when moving across
the centrelines.
I worked with a carpenter to devise a method for constructing the 3D dimesional curved surfaces used. Curved sections of the shapes were printed out at 100% and used as templates for the wooden sections which were finally plastered smooth.
