HARDWARE
The dancing Robosapiens are controlled by a PC which handles the interaction and plays synchronised sound.
The Robosapiens themselves are unaltered other than to wire them for mains electricity, and to screw them to the floor so that -they don't wander about -they don't fall over without heavy batteries in their feet.
Control of the robots is achieved by mimicking the IR codes transmitted by the standard remote control. This is achieved with a device called USB-UIRT (USB universal infra red transceiver), designed and marketed by Jon Rhees. The USBUIRT is an excellent solution with a free and well documented software API.
The dancing robots software can be controlled in two ways, by large buttons which are wired to a cannibalised USB joystick, and by SMS messages which are received by a connected mobile phone and passed to the PC.
